The SCS holds two meetings a year (Spring and Autumn) where expert speakers are invited to give talks on topics spanning the breadth of cardiology and beyond. Trainees are strongly encouraged to attend both meetings each year. Trainees should also endeavour to submit research or quality improvement work to the Autumn meeting, with the best submissions being chosen for oral and poster presentations.
This initiative was set up by the SCS in 2019 with support of the regional Training Programme Directors and NHS Education for Scotland. This aims to improve provision of teaching to cardiology trainees across Scotland by delivering regular, national, curriculum-based training to all Scottish trainees
The SCNTP programme is organised by the Scottish Cardiac Society Training Representatives for each of the regions, supported by a lead Consultant who sits on the Scottish Cardiac Society Council. Presently, the SCNTP Consultant lead is Dr Benedict Wiles, Consultant in Cardiac Electrophysiology, NHS Grampian.
Training days are a mixture of in person events and virtual training afternoons (usually the last Friday afternoon of each month). Sessions will be recorded and available to view after the event via Teams. Older sessions are available on the SCS YouTube channel now. These videos are unlisted on YouTube and must be accessed via the below link.
