The Scottish Cardiac Society has a central role in supporting cardiology trainees across Scotland.
Scottish Cardiac Society meetings.
The SCS holds two meetings a year where expert speakers are invited to give talks on topics spanning the breadth of cardiology and beyond. In addition, trainees are encouraged to submit research or quality improvement work to the Scientific Sessions, and if successful will be able to present their work either orally as an abstract presentation or a poster.
Scottish Cardiology National Training Programme (SCNTP)
This new initiative has been set up by the SCS with the support of the regional Training Programme Directors and NHS Education for Scotland. The aim is to improve provision of teaching to cardiology trainees across Scotland by delivering regular curriculum-based training days to all Scottish trainees at a central location. We will aim to cover the entire core-curriculum over a three-year period. We will offer three training days per year in the first instance, with an additional half day training session formally built into the SCS Autumn Meeting.
The days themselves will start at 10:00 to enable travel to the meeting on the same day. Lunch will be provided. During coffee break and lunch periods there will be a common space where the delegates can interact with industry stands whose sponsorship is enabling the meetings to be provided free of charge. Note that the sponsors have no input into the education content of the meetings. Slides from previous meetings will be provided online.
Sample questions from the European Examination in General Cardiology (formerly the KBA), will be integrated into the talks, so these days should also be seen as good examination preparation. A certificate of attendance will also be provided that can be uploaded to the NHS eportfolio and linked to provide evidence of experience in particular areas which will be particularly useful for more specialised areas of the core curriculum which can otherwise be difficult to access. Whilst these initial training days are aimed at the core curriculum this will also be an excellent refresher for more senior registrars in areas outside of their sub-speciality interest.

Travel grants are available to enable attendance at educational meetings, including the SCNTP training days. Applicants must be SCS members (more information).
